S18 SWIFT

No trail too wild, no descent too fast

If there is no trail too radical for you, no send too far and no descent too fast, you will be grateful for every millimeter of extra travel. And more motor power means even more fun. The S18 Swift has plenty of both and brings its performance in every riding situation well controlled down to the ground. It not only rocks the downhill, it also turns flat trails and climbs into flow parties. This is not about elevation gain or distance, it's the descent that counts. Whether your personal kick is the ultimate technical challenge with an overdose of adrenaline, or high-speed flow and G-forces give you that longed-for feeling of happiness, the S18 SWIFT will meet all your gravity needs. With 180 mm of travel, progressive downhill-hungry geometry and an indestructible frame, it not only rocks the downhill. Thanks to its innovative, powerful Bosch drive and low weight, it also turns flat trails and climbs into flow parties.

Complete Bike or Frame Kit

The S18 SWIFT is available as a complete bike with a high-quality, perfectly matched build kit that can also be customized in several items via our online configurator. In addition, we offer the S18 SWIFT as a frame kit too. A complete custom build in our factory is also possible. The S18 SWIFT can be powder-coated in your desired colors, for which a wide palette is offered. A selection of anodized colors is available for the rocker arm and other mounted milled parts. An aluminum finish is also possible as factory raw.

Bosch Performance Line CX Power Upgrade

With the power upgrade of the Gen 5 Performance Line CX motor (BDU384Y), the S18 SWIFT uses the most powerful Bosch e-assist drive currently available for an eMTB. Its performance specs: Up to 400% assistance with 750 W maximum power and 100 Nm maximum torque. Thanks to a high-resolution sensor matrix including a new 6-axis inertia sensor, the S18 SWIFT brings its impressive power to the trail depending on the surface, gradient, acceleration, load and cadence, making the power output feel even more direct, intuitive and natural. At the same time, it was possible to significantly reduce engine noise under load. The idling rattle of the Gen 4 engine has also been completely eliminated. The ECO+, TOUR+, EMTB+ and TURBO assist modes are preset ex works on the S18 SWIFT.

Bosch Kiox 400C and Mini Remote Control Unit

The Kiox 400C is a large and easy-to-read color display integrated into the top tube, serving as the control center of the Bosch Smart System. Thanks to its integration in the top tube, it is protected from damage, making it ideal for tough enduro use. The assist modes can be selected and all riding and performance data displayed due to intuitive menu navigation. It can be operated via the display itself or completely from the handlebars while riding using the compact Mini Remote control unit.

Bosch ABS Pro

The Bosch Smart System can be extended with the Bosch ABS Pro anti-lock braking system. We offer this option for the S18 SWIFT in combination with a Magura MT7 brake system. Unlike the previous version, the ABS Pro now has two selectable modes with different characteristics. It supports braking, especially in a sporting context, by ensuring faster downhill speeds and more flow by allowing later braking points. It is particularly effective during the initial braking phase, when the surface conditions are unknown or the grip conditions change. The ABS allows you to immediately find the optimal brake pressure and decelerate as aggressively as possible without losing grip. .

Horst Link 4-Link Rear Suspension

At the beginning of the suspension travel, the S18 SWIFT has a high stroke-to-travel ratio of 1:3.1, which ensures a sensitive response and effective use of the negative travel. In the middle range, with a ratio of 1:2.5, we achieve a stable platform for optimal feedback, dynamic bike control and efficient pedaling. At the end of the suspension travel, a ratio of 1:2.1 ensures a progressive reserve and effective bottom-out protection for hard landings.

Anti Squat - Anti Rise

Anti-squat means that on steep climbs in low gears, the chain tension induces a rebound movement of the rear wheel, which counteracts the rider's weight shift while pedaling. The rear end doesn't sag, the rider doesn't lose power, and the tire grips the ground. In long gears at high speeds and on descents, however, the anti-squat effect is minimized due to a different chain pull vector, and the suspension works sensitively and absorbs all shocks.

Insert Bearings

The rear end of a full-suspension bike is subjected to high dynamic loads during riding. The focus here is on the bearing points where the forces are transmitted between the components. The full-ball, double-sealed bearings installed on our frames are made by the ENDURO brand. They not only have top marks for power transmission, but also a particularly low breakaway torque, which ensures sensitive, smooth suspension response. At the same time, they offer the best possible sealing against dirt and moisture for a long service life and long maintenance intervals.

UDH Standard

With the UDH standard, a SRAM Transmission rear derailleur is attached directly to the thru axle mount of the rear end. These rear derailleurs are designed significantly sturdier than regular derailleurs and are thus better protected against bending or ripping off. Their higher torsional stiffness also ensures higher shifting precision. SRAM AXS Transmission rear derailleurs are operated electronically and wireless and are optimized for shifting under high load.

Topology Optimization

In the design of turned and milled parts, we use FEM software (Finite Element Method) to simulate the loads that will occur in later use in order to determine the optimum shape (topology) of these components. Critical areas of the design become visible in this way and can be strengthened by adding material, while material and weight can be saved at less stressed areas. In this way, highly complex parts and assemblies can be manufactured that combine maximum durability with minimum weight.

HMT - Hollow Milled Technology

Hollow Milled technology is a design and manufacturing process that allows for maximum material and weight savings in the CNC production of highly stressed volume components without weakening the construction. For this purpose, the stress zones in the material are determined by computer simulation during the design phase. Highly stressed areas can thus be reinforced, while material can be saved in less stressed areas. This method is called topology optimization. Thanks to the deployment of state-of-the-art 5-axis milling machines, we are able to manufacture highly complex, hollow milled frame components from a single piece and transfer the optimized design with the highest level of detail.

5 Frame Sizes

S - XXL

From S to XXL, the geometry of the S18 SWIFT has been optimized according to size to ensure consistent weight distribution, handling and bike response across all frame and body sizes. This is a true size-proportional geometry that goes beyond the usual increase in head tube, top tube and chainstay length. Among other factors, the steering angle and seat angle also change depending on the frame size. This ensures that an optimum balance is always maintained between the front center and rear center. A constant, balanced ratio of reach and stack is also important to guarantee a consistent load distribution on the front and rear wheels. Only a loaded tire can generate traction on different surfaces. An uneven wheel load easily leads to understeer or oversteer. The geometry data of the different frame sizes, which at first glance appears arbitrary, is therefore no coincidence, but the result of extensive calculations and tests. The result is outstanding handling that offers both rookies and experienced riders maximum performance, control and confidence, regardless of body and frame size.

7020 Aluminium

Nachhaltig und dauerhaft, der Stoff aus dem die Träume sind

We build our frames from 7020-T6 aircraft grade aluminum, because we are convinced that this alloy is the superior material in the construction of mountain bikes. Compared to the 6061-T6 (AlMg1SiCu) alloy commonly used in bicycle construction, 7020-T6 (AlZn4.5Mg1) has about 30% higher tensile strength and about 20% higher elastic limit. Our frames are engineered and designed so that when overloaded, deformation occurs in a defined area of the frame rather than breakage, significantly reducing the risk of serious accidents and injuries. A NICOLAI aluminum frame is designed to withstand many years even under tough competition conditions. Aluminum is also 100% recyclable. Production waste and old frames can be repurposed into new, top-quality bike frames.

NICOLAI Welding Technology

Craftsmanship and engineering in perfection

We weld our frames by hand using the TIG process. Our welders are specially trained for this and have many years of experience. For each model and frame size, a precise welding fixture is built, called a frame jig. In it, the CNC-cut tube sets are precisely assembled and fixated with all turned and milled parts of a frame that are to be welded. The frame components are first tacked with single spot welds at precisely specified points in a defined sequence and then, to minimize distortion and stresses, welded in several passes.

Extra Love

powder coating and anodizing colors, decals, customizing, individualization

Thanks to a wide range of colors, every NICOLAI frame can be customized as desired. In our factory's powder coating facility, we process more than 50 colors, each of which can be applied in a high-gloss or satin finish. A separate color is possible for each welded frame component. Frames and frame components can also be anodized as an option, with a choice of black, bronze or titanium. An extended range of anodized colors is available for turned or milled applications such as bell cranks, bearing caps or cable clips, allowing color matching with common components, for example. We also offers an uncoated aluminum finish as "factory raw". If you then add the range of decals colors, the number of design options is almost limitless and a unique, personalized custom bike is guaranteed.

Warranty and spare parts supply

NICOLAI grants a 5-year warranty on all frame models against breakage and material failure, even in racing use or when jumping. The premise is that the respective models are used within the scope of their designated purpose and are equipped only with the components for which there is an approval. In addition, the manufacturer guarantees a spare parts supply for all models for a period of at least 10 years. Since NICOLAI manufactures all components of its frames itself and on its own machines, in individual cases a subsequent production of spare parts is even possible beyond the period of 10 years.

BIKEBOX

We have developed an elaborate reusable bike box for our mail-order shipping. In it, the new NICOLAI bike arrives protected in a wooden frame and guaranteed safe at the customer and is ready for use after a few simple steps. The same box is reused when the bike is returned to us for repair or service. All shipping protections of the bike box such as pads, lashing straps, brackets and screw connections are also reusable.
